Monumental Theatre Company Earns Nine Helen Hayes Award Nominations

Monumental Theatre Company received nine Helen Award nominations at theatreWashington’s 2019 Helen Hayes Award Nominations Announcement Event held on February 4, 2019, at The National Theatre. Brooklyn the Musical received five total nominations including Outstanding Production in a Musical. Pippin received four total nominations. This is the first year that Monumental Theatre Company has been eligible for nomination to the Helen Hayes Awards.


“This past season, the D.C. theatre community produced some amazing shows,” said Managing Director Beth Amann, “We’re thrilled that our work is being acknowledged amongst them.”


Monumental collected two nominations in the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical: one for Solomon Parker in Pippin and another for DeCarlo Raspberry in Brooklyn the Musical. Taylor Washington swiped a nomination for Lead Actress in a Musical for Brooklyn the Musical.


“We had the opportunity to work with some of the best artists in DC for our 2018 season and we’re so proud that their talents and efforts were recognized,” Co-Artistic Director Michael Windsor commented. Windsor received a nomination for Outstanding Direction in a Musical for Brooklyn the Musical.


Additional nominations included Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical for both Brooklyn the Musical and Pippin, a nomination for Kaitlin Kemp for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Musical for Pippin and a nomination for Ahmad Maaty for Outstanding Choreography in a Musical for Pippin.


“The Helen Hayes Awards are a wonderful celebration of D.C. theatre,” said Co-Artistic Director Jimmy Mavrikes, “we’re looking forward to the ceremony in May.”

The 2019 Helen Hayes Awards Ceremony will be held at The Anthem in Washington, D.C., on May 13, 2019.
