Brian J. Shaw (he/him) has served as a board member since 2019—recruited by Monumental's co-founder Beth Amann—and is eager to help spur Monumental's growth as an arts organization and institution.
Brian is an Ohio-born, DC-based arts administrator, theatremaker, and supporter. He came to the DC Metro area in 2012 as a costuming apprentice at Olney Theatre Center, where he subsequently returned as an assistant director or designer until 2016. From 2015 to 2021, he served as Artistic Associate and Director of Production at IN Series opera, where he produced, performed, directed, designed, and collaborated on numerous productions and concerts. From 2017 to 2019, he served as a judge for Theatre Washington's Helen Hayes Awards and has since returned as a creative producer for Helen Hayes Awards and Theatre Week programming. Since 2017, he has produced free concerts for local senior homes in partnership with The Fenwick Foundation and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.
He holds a BA in Theatre from Baldwin-Wallace College (‘12) and a certificate in Arts & Culture Strategy from the University of Pennsylvania and National Arts Strategies (‘19). He currently serves on the Advisory Board for DC Theater Arts, as an administrator for the Washington Area Performing Arts Video Archive, on the development team for Educational Theatre Company.
