HISTORY

2015
Monumental Theatre Company was founded in 2015 by Beth Amann, Jimmy Mavrikes, and Michael Windsor. With the support of individual donors who shared their vision, they were able to begin producing shows in March 2015. Monumental has become a place for emerging artists to develop their talents in a supportive and creatively stimulating environment. By championing the careers of rising talent and modeling excellence in community care, our founders aimed to inspire artists and institutions to reimagine what it means to create art with integrity, respect, and imagination.
2018
Monumental received the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company at the 2018 Helen Hayes Awards presented by Theatre Washington. Our productions and creatives have received a total of 35 nominations and awards for Outstanding Set Design (Michael Windsor & Yaritza Pacheco, tick, tick... BOOM!) and Outstanding Supporting Performer in a Musical (Molly Rumberger, Be More Chill).
2021
Monumental is committed not only to creating transformative theatrical experiences but also to setting a new standard for supportive and equitable work environments. In 2021, Monumental adopted a robust Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment that details a first-of-its-kind trauma-informed complaint reporting and resolution process. This work was spearheaded by the company’s current Board Chair and DC-based attorney, Kaiya Lyons, and developed in consultation with a committee of Artistic Advisors comprised of past Monumental artists. Monumental continually evaluates the effectiveness of this groundbreaking policy each year through trainings, surveys, and vigorous enforcement.
2025
As Monumental Theatre Company enters its 10th year of operations, we are excited to think boldly and creatively about what opportunities the next decade will hold. To reach our goals, we developed a three-year Strategic Plan to build a strong foundation for our continued growth.
